Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's understandable for concerns to be raised about his position after a further convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in twelve matches, marking the team's poorest streak since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received a lot of support from management,” Slot stated.
“It would be great to turn it around and get a victory of course but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal exchanges I sense the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them since this match so far so let’s see.”
Persistent Failings and Squad Reaction
The manager lamented known failings from his team in their Champions League defeat, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder said.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a phase such as this with performances like these.”
Jones stated, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And until that badge is gone, we will always battle.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad back to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”
“But right now, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
