Jurgen Klopp says coming back to coach Liverpool is theoretically possible.
The German coach, who departed from Anfield in 2024, has suggested that returning someday remains an option. The 58-year-old, after a transformative near-decade reign that included continental glory and the Reds’ first league title for three decades, currently occupies roles as head of global soccer within the Red Bull organization and in an advisory capacity with the German Football League.
Fan Sentiment and His Frank Comments
The club claimed the Premier League under Arne Slot, yet numerous supporters holding him in high esteem would embrace the possibility that he might come back one day. In a wide-ranging interview, he explained to his interviewer: “I stated I will never coach another team on English soil. Which implies should it be the Reds...yeah. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“At 58 years old, which suggests I could make the decision later on, I don’t know. Is a decision required immediately? Then I will not coach again. But thank God, I don’t have to do that. I'll wait and observe what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Questioned regarding which situations must arise to tempt his return to the dugout, he confessed he was not instantly drawn toward coming back. “I don’t even know exactly, My present work fulfills me,” he said. “I don’t miss coaching; I don’t miss standing during downpours through long matches; No need for media briefings repeatedly each week or having 10-12 interviews weekly.
“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, however, dining out with the players enjoying conversation, that’s nice. Success was frequent so there was often great spirits at the club. I still have Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled as an instance.”
Praise for His Successor
He commended for his successor, acknowledging his role for the adjustments that won the league last term. They've been defeated four in a row across various tournaments after a summer spending spree, but he rubbished the suggestion of it representing a decline.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward in Flo[rian] Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if spoken against. A remarkable prospect. The French striker, superb talent. This is a well-built balanced team. No need for concern about Liverpool, things will improve.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
He shared movingly on the loss of Jota, a 2020 acquisition during his tenure, and the effect for the team. The Portugal international died tragically in a vehicle collision together with his sibling this past summer.
“Who can fill the void of a person like him? It goes beyond the player himself, his personality mattered. I struggle to conceive the squad without him in it. I still cannot speak properly about it. A profound tragedy for all the boys as well. Not a single person might employ it to justify results but it is the situation. Entering the changing area where he was omnipresent. Dealing with that on a personal level is not easy. Impossible.”
