Line of Duty Confirmed for 7th Season on the British Broadcaster

Line of Duty cast members
Vicky McClure are set to reprise their roles in the popular police drama

The beloved police drama AC-12 will make a comeback for its 7th season, confirmed by the BBC.

A brand new six-episode season created by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast this spring, according to the network.

The actress expressed excitement about the return, saying she was "so excited" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar added, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together soon."

The last season wrapped up in recent years with a finale that attracted more than 17 million audience members. Speculation about a new season have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only arrived recently.

New Challenges for AC-12

Series seven begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by production details.

Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings remain working to combat misconduct within the police force.

Their work "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio are assigned their "most delicate case so far."

Fresh Face and Complex Case

An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer celebrated for busts of organized crime, faces allegations of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.

Yet, this investigation might serve as a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still operating in the background, the teaser suggested.

Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the show's fans."

"It's an honor to have had countless followers watch the developments of the unit over multiple series and we are thrilled to be returning for a new season."

He added: "Misconduct in the UK is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."

Actor Responses

The Scottish actor described being part of the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".

"Not only the program's popularity but the colleagues I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."

"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he said.

Vicky McClure stated: "It goes without saying I'm very happy the show is back! Eager to work with the creator, Compston and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"

Adrian Dunbar commented: "As we count down the unit days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be working together soon."

"Pleased with the news and looking forward to those mercurial twists and turns."

Show History

Line of Duty launched in 2012 and became one of the most popular television series of the past ten years, featuring notable actors such as Lennie James.

Broadcasters has not yet announced exactly the upcoming series will premiere.

The conclusion of season six drew the long-running storyline about the search for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a close, and the creative team indicated at the time there were no intentions for additional seasons.

However, the network confirmed on Tuesday that a seventh series is now in development.
