Shot-stopper Mary Earps has openly declared that her freshly launched autobiography was not designed to “tear anyone down” and voiced unease that public reaction has been “distorted.”

Debated Statements and Supporters’ Disapproval

The retired international player, who played a key role in the Euro 2022 victory, encountered disapproval from followers and Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor after making remarks about ex-colleague Hannah Hampton and head coach Sarina Wiegman.

In her autobiography, Earps wrote that she told Wiegman she was “rewarding bad behaviour” by bringing Hampton back to the national team after leaving her out for being “problematic and undependable.”

“The response has been immense to see how parts were misrepresented,” Earps stated publicly.

Defending Her Intentions

Earps firmly declared that her book was never intended to damage anyone.

• “This book wasn’t written to tear anyone down in any shape or form.”
• “That isn’t my personality as a human being.”
• “These are real events. It has implications. It is not a show.”

She also remarked about how women’s football has evolved into a realm that has become “a bit like entertainment,” where personal lives are scrutinized heavily for people’s enjoyment.

Earps mentioned losing her spot as the first-choice keeper before the European Championship and how that created tension with Wiegman.

She clarified it was “not a rapid decline” in their connection—just a divergence in opinions—and she continues to admire the manager.

“Several incidents that happened in the summer that I wish had happened differently,” Earps remarked.

Individual Difficulties

In her book, Earps discussed openly the harassment she endured at during her education, describing it as a “really hard” part to revisit because it brought back old wounds.

• “I frequently thought that people were against me for the majority of my years.”
• “I was conditioned to feel like nobody really cares.”

These emotions led to stress outbreaks, and Earps shared she struggled with self-perception and used alcohol during the lockdown period to manage anxiety and depression.

Personal Life and Future Plans

Earps openly discussed that she is in a partnership with Kitty and stated she is proud about her partnership.

She also talked about her hopes for motherhood and revealed she has frozen her eggs for potential family planning.

“I deeply desire to be a parent and have a family of my own,” Earps commented. “I am passionate about soccer, but I hope to have a child in the future.”

Earps portrayed the medical treatment as “overwhelming and personal” and advocated for more research tailored to players undergoing similar procedures.

Throughout the interview, Earps reiterated that she has no regrets about her professional journey or life decisions, emphasizing that she always acted with integrity.
