The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for United
The forward, with six months left on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Boost the Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United seem to be building positive momentum.
Recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further business:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
