Toronto Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Meeting Against Los Angeles Dodgers
George Springer previously helped the Houston Astros securing the championship in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays reached their initial Fall Classic after 1993 by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the final Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.
Behind three runs to one, the star outfielder hit a three-run blast in the seventh frame, propelling the Toronto squad in the majors to a four games to three triumph in the series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team that is the current crown, in the forthcoming World Series.
"I'm thrilled for everyone here, Toronto, the nation," commented Springer, a star of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 championship. "This is such an unbelievable moment."
George Springer has now slugged 23 post-season home runs, making him third all-time trailing only Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).
"It's hard to imagine another player in the world that I'd prefer in that moment except for Springer with his post-season brilliance," said Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
Seattle, despite leading the early in the series, remain the only MLB franchise yet to make an appearance in a Fall Classic.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson stated "there's no question that it's painful" in the wake of his club's elimination at Rogers Centre, but praised their efforts in the campaign.
"It's a special team. Unfortunately that we ended up on the wrong side of this game," he remarked.
The Blue Jays claimed the title on their two prior appearances in 1992 and 1993, and will welcome the Dodgers in game one on this Friday.
